Io Capitano di Matteo Garrone sarà candidato nella categoria Miglior Film Internazionale agli Oscar 2024. Il film del regista romano gareggerà, dunque, con Perfect Days di Wim Wenders (Giappone), La società della neve di J. A. Bayona (Spagna), The Teacher’s Lounge di Ilker Çatak (Germania) e La zona di interesse di Jonathan Glazer (Regno Unito). 

Le candidature delle nomination agli Oscar 2024 hanno visto Oppenheimer di Christopher Nolan furoreggiare con ben 13 candidature. Segue Povere Creature! di Yorgos Lanthimos con 11 e Killers of the Flowers Moon di Martin Scorsese con 10 nomination.
